About Food Safety Supervision

This set of skills is to equip individuals in hygienic practices and handling food safety during the storage, preparation, display, service and disposal of food. This skill set is for food handling personnel or food safety supervisors who are already currently working in tourism, hospitality and catering organisations and who have access to permanent or temporary kitchen premises or smaller food preparation areas. This course is designed to allow you to study at your own pace being delivered fully online via our user friendly platform however please note you will be required to have access to a fully operational kitchen and a suitably experienced or qualified Supervisor/Colleague willing to sign 'Third Party Observations' on your behalf. You will learn many valuable skills including:

  • Learn to follow hygiene procedures, identify food hazards and participate in safe food handling practices

  • Understand airborne and infectious diseases and hygience practices

  • Learn about HACCP, safe food handling, prevention and control of pests and adhering to internal food safety protocols

  • Meets the national requirements for businesses to have a Food Safety Supervisor in their venue or business at all times

  • How long does the training take?

    The skill set can take up to 18 hours (total time) to complete. You will however be learning at your own pace which means you are able to fit in your study around your other work, family and social commitments.

  • What are the units that are covered in the training?

    This skill set covers two units: SITXFSA001 - Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA002 - Participate in safe food handling practices

  • How long do I have to undertake the training?

    You will have access to the course and training for 3 months.

  • How often do I have to re-train or re-skill?

    In some states, it is a requirement to undertake updated training every 5 years. Please check with your local state for more information.

    Completing this course is straightforward and fun all you will require is a computer or tablet with internet access and or a mobile phone with video capability. Access to a fully operational kitchen and a suitably experienced of qualified supervisor or colleague willing to sign your 'Third Party Observations'.
